Avimex* Animal Health Obtains The Mexican License For NewH5®,
Recombinant Vaccine Against Avian Influenza
Subtype H5 And Newcastle Disease.
Mexico City, Mexico – January, 2008.
Avimex*, the Mexican pharmaceutical company founded in 1952 and world-leader in killed avian influenza subtype H5 vaccine, and known for its innovative research and development activities focused on recombinant vaccines for poultry and swine, has announced by Dr. Bernardo Lozano - Avimex* CEO, that the company obtained at the end of 2007 the governmental license for NewH5®, novel vaccine for the prevention and control of avian influenza. Avimex* is planning to launch this new vaccine into the Mexican market this year.
This new technology consists of a live recombinant vaccine in a Newcastle disease LaSota strain vector that contains an insertion of the H5 gene of avian influenza virus, and represents a significant scientific development for the poultry industry. The new vaccine can be administered to poultry, by the ocular, drinking water or coarse spray methods, to induce integral immunity and full protection against VNDV and HPAIV, and for a significant reduction of LPAIV in the exposed birds.
Future vaccination with NEWH5® in conjunction with the current Avimex* avian influenza emulsified vaccine will benefit the poultry industry worldwide, enhancing the ability to prevent, control and eventually eradicate avian influenza in poultry, by cutting the pernicious “infection-excretion-reinfection” cycle of field avian influenza virus, Bernardo Lozano , said.
